Insomnia Cookies: No sleep, no problem. Insomnia Cookies is open until 1 a.m. for all the late night munchies. Let’s face it, studying and binge-watching is a whole lot more enjoyable when you have something sweet to dig into. The classic chocolate chunk is a good choice, but the s’mores and triple chocolate deluxe was a show-stopper. They also have ice cream cookie sandwiches and even vegan options to take the experience to a whole other level.
Altogether, I felt like the cookies were great in flavor, though I also thought the cookies were served a bit cold which is unfortunate. This could have been because they were delivered to me. Overall, Insomnia Cookies remain a great choice for a late-night snack because of the convenience, their dessert variety, and the delicious comfort-food factor.
Crumbl: One irresistible Crumbl cookie can take about a fourth of your daily calorie intake and nearly four times the amount of the recommended sugar – but who’s keeping track, right? While Crumbl cookie may be a toxic influence, it has not stopped Americans from trying each week’s new and exciting flavors. This week, I got three mini cookies – wafer Kit-Kat, key lime pie, and a semi-sweet chocolate chunk cookie. Upon opening my box, the presentation of the cookies was very striking and alluring. I love the way they offer a variety of both traditional and unique styles. I first tried the wafer Kit-Kat flavor, and I must admit, it set the bar high. It was delicious in flavor, and had a perfect soft and warm texture. Next was the key lime pie.
It was not great as the flavors tasted very artificial, and the stale lime on top felt unnecessary because it was not aesthetically pleasing. Lastly, the chocolate chunk cookie was surprisingly not very good. It was a bit dry and definitely not ‘semi-sweet’ (more like extra-sweet). Overall, my favorite was definitely the Kit-Kat cookie, and the others were decent at best.
Pudgy’s – Are you looking for something more local? Pudgy’s has the best “Thickerdoodle” Houston has to offer. Located towards the Heights, this small shop tops all the franchise cookie stores there are. Pudgy’s version of the classic chocolate chip was perhaps the best cookie I have ever had. It was chunky, warm and outright outstanding – I almost considered Yelping. They also had fun flavors like the Big Oreo, Wild Campfire and Bonanza Brulee. I can tell the ingredients were of better quality, and they were made with lots of love. This is why I prefer local restaurants and shops because they offer simple but quality products.
My cookie adventure opened my eyes to the variety of sweet options around Houston. Coincidentally, Crumbl cookies were the ones to crumble on my ranking. There was too much going on, and I did not want to eat for days because the amount of sugar made me feel so nauseous. Pudgy’s made it to the top of my list with their amazing OG chocolate chip, and Insomnia was a solid silver star ranking.
