Meet Blen Zewdie, Student Council president and senior who is ready to make changes and accomplish it all.

After finding out about Student Council, Zewdie did lots of volunteering and other activities that highlighted her leadership skills and took any opportunity that she could, until they noticed her hard work.

“I always knew that I wanted to be president as soon as I heard about Student Council,” Zewdie said.

Earlier this year, she found out she had been elected as president.

“I was really excited. I just knew that all my hard work had paid off,” Zewdie said.

Now she has a lot more responsibility that might sometimes seem hard but she also gets to be part of exciting events.

“One of my main goals is to make sure that everyone at Lamar feels like Lamar is kind of a home for them,” Zewdie said.

Although it’s still in the planning stage, managing Homecoming is one  of the things Zewdie is currently busy with.

“My team and I are working extremely hard to make sure this is a Homecoming that everyone can enjoy,” Zewdie said.

Student Council is also hosting two blood drives partnered with MD Anderson.

“It’s one of our favorite events, I mean Homecoming is like an amazing opportunity too but with the blood drive we actually get to save patients,” Zewdie said.

She gets to see her and her team’s visions come to life.

“It’s a lot of hard work but at the end you know it’ll be worth it,” Zewdie said.

Zewdie is very hard working as she currently has two other jobs outside of school.

“Being a senior, my class has had a hard time with covid and everything, so I want to make sure they have a heck of a year,” Zewdie said.
