As the 2025 baseball districts’ season came to an end and playoffs were rapidly approaching, the stakes increased as they were playing for something bigger than district champs. They knew more was expected from them as each game would be tougher than the last. Senior Kalino Lahaun added that the best approach was, “Not to be complacent and focus on what’s right in front of you.” This was their time to apply all it is they learnt throughout their season and play for each other.
The tone was set the moment this team got on the field. They knew what they wanted and how to get it. The first match up against Cypress Falls Highschool was crucial to win as it go big or go home. Winning that game provided a confidence booster for the team as it showed them the true capability of their talents and hard work under pressure, and against a playoff team, but this was only the beginning.
Round two, new team, harder competition, but the team pulled through with an outstanding blown out win. Behan stated that, “The second round was a step up in competition. Once we won, we knew our team was looking pretty legit”. At this moment Behan realized the talent amongst him. He knew that for them to make it this far in their season it was more than luck, but the testament of their hard work as a team.
Leading up to the third round the team kept their preparational minimum but meaningful. “Practice leading up to the game [we] didn’t do anything too crazy, had more chill practices and prepared for the pitcher we were going to face. We all knew we had a chance against them. The day of the game reached as final score sat at 7-0, being a tough loss for the team. We still had another chance, but we didn’t pull through. I would definitely say that the homerun that was hit was when a lot of hope began to be lost,” said Behan. Due to that the team fell short and ended their season to Pearland Highschool in the third round.
Moments of this game replayed in the players’ minds, thoughts of regret, and doubt. As Behan recalled the game’s changing play, he remembered points in which he held himself accountable. “There was a runner in scoring position, and I ended up striking out and I missed it, because if I got the runner in, we could have won the game, and the home run would have never happened.” Through the ups and downs of the game the team still hung in there and battled to the very end. Lehaun stated, “It didn’t feel like it was over till it was over.”

With the sour taste of loss, the varsity returners are ready to make their mark this season as they prepare for their revenge story. Memory of that hard-fought loss wasn’t easy to shake off and continues to be a fuel for them this season. “We have a lot of guys from last season coming back, and we know how we all felt, and it pushes us in order to not be in that same position again,” stated LeHaun. Experience like this as a team teaches mental and physical strength as it realigns the main goal. Behan says, “Baseball is a sport of failure, and you’re going to fail a lot, but staying consistent and doing your job of holding everybody accountable and being good leaders so we can go further this season.”
Growth and change is what seemed to be the motto of this offseason as it allowed the team to build on themselves and one another. Behan described the offseason consisting of weightlifting, team bonding and new offensive approaches that are in hops to aid in a dominated season for the boys. As the non-district games of 2026 have begun, it’s important for them to put their best foot forward, come strong and set the tone for the remainer of their season.
