The volleyball team launched into a new year with new ambitions and a new team. The seniors have gone through three years of competitions and kneepads together and began the final stretch year. All the seniors surround themselves with high energy, love and success. Team Captain and senior Sienna Rossmiller has had a whirlwind of adventure throughout her years as a player but has loved every second of the journey.
“I love this whole team and community,” Rossmiller said. “It’s so fun to be a part of, especially as team captain this year.”
The varsity seniors have been through countless obstacles and accomplishments together over the last couple of years.
“Beyond the ways the team has improved their individual technical volleyball skills, their most remarkable collective improvement has been their ability to see how every member of their squad is essential to them functioning as a unit,” Head Coach Rebecca Retzloff said. “They are valuing all the strengths and figuring out how to best champion one another.”
Everyone has grown individually and as a team. The team has changed both mentally and physically over the last three years and all the seniors are going to put in a tremendous amount of work to make their last season the best ever.
“The most impressive thing I’ve seen them do is turn into the leaders of this program, demand the best from one another, extend grace when needed and grow leaps and bounds in their mental tenacity,” Retzloff said. Although their volleyball career has had numerous memorable and remarkable moments, there have also been many challenges along the way.
“This past year, we lost about 90% of our varsity team with them being seniors so this year it’s been a whole new varsity team struggling to get together with winning some of our preseason games, Rossmiller said.
Other members of the team, such as senior Hannah Williams, have had their own personal challenges throughout their seasons as well.
“I had to change to right-side hitter and had to learn how to hit a higher ball,” Williams said. “I also got hurt my junior year and had to sit out for four weeks during our season.”
Despite all challenges these seniors faced, they have put in the time, hard work and dedication to
make new levels and possibilities.
“This group of seniors is special to me,” Retzloff said. “I’ve known them for three years now and it has been an absolute honor to watch them grow from squirrelly sophomores into strong, confident women.”
